WHAT THEHEEBEE SAYS is
We accidentally stepped into “NILAVARA” for lunch one day. While searching for another eatery, we passed by Nilavara. We peeped inside and felt that it will give us a different experience. So we changed our plan and stepped inside to try our luck at Kerala style food. It is located in Electronic City Phase-1. Very clean and tidy place. “Nilavara” means place or room which is usually part of traditional wooden houses in Kerala. The management has tried their best to give it a rustic Kerala ambiance and we feel that they have succeeded to a good extent. Each table has two earthen pots each containing rasam and spiced buttermilk. The pots are covered with wooden lids and has wooden ware to take the content. Walls have good village paintings. All this caused all the initial pull for us to try this place. Good job to the management on the efforts taken.
The menu includes a range of veg and nonveg dishes and Kerala cuisine nominates it.
Fish meal :
Fish meal brought our excitement down a bit. First, we expected it to be served in banana leaf but it was served in paper plate resembling a banana leaf. Second, the only thing that made it a ‘Fish’ meal was the fish curry which just had one thumb sized fish piece. The best part of this meal though was the Kerala style unpolished rice which we enjoyed very much.
Ayala Pollichathu / Fish Wrapped in Banana Leaf:
Next we thought to try some authentic Keralean Fish preparation. We checked with staff to suggest some authentic fish preparation and they suggested few things out of which we decided to try Fish which is cooked in banana leaf.
It was a single bone king fish well coated with spices. Garlic and ginger were the prominent among the spices. Fish was tender and well cooked. It is definitely recommended for anyone who would love the traditionally cooked fish. We were very much satisfied with the fish experience.
During the meal you can have the complimentary rasam and spiced buttermilk as much as you would like to. Both were good in taste. Staff was very helpful and the place was kept very neat and tidy.
The place was full when we reached for lunch. Looking at the crowd, we could make out that it has a good amount of regular visitors.
