Arabian and Malabar Cuisine at Moriz Restaurant

Malabar-combination-1Moriz is among those restaurants in Electronic City which has a prominent location. Whatever time of the day it is, if you are passing by Neeladri Road then it is easy to spot Moriz. During night it becomes even more easy with beautiful red lights inside and the chicken grill machine outside.

The menu has a spread of Arabian, Malabar, North Indian and Chinese cuisine. Over-all it was a good experience with all the cuisines we have tried. We have been here couple of times and this time we planned to visit it purely to try the Arabian and Malabar cuisine, which seems to be their core strength.

The setup actually is very attractive. Well ventilated with huge glass walls, grilled chicken and shawarma setups right at the entrance and lovely red lights at night. Frankly speaking, these have been a strong attraction to step inside the restaurant whenever we passed by it. During all the visits we have found that it is atleast occupied to half of its capacity, which means it has been able to gain a good clientele by now.

Ambiance is one of the big attractions. Prominence of location makes it easy to spot it. It is very well ventilated and well lit. It has two floors of dining. Big glass walls on the road facing side gives it ample lighting all day long. The glass walls makes it very pleasant dining experience during rains. Interiors are clean and well kept. A parlor at the entrance displays their specialties. Dot at the entrance is grill and shawarma setup. It has beautiful red lamps which makes it delightful at night.

Chicken Al Faham

A dry roasted chicken dish served with mayonnaise, spiced salad and shawarma naan. While other tandoori/grilled chicken preparations are usually red, this one was yellow. It seemed to be very well marinated with balanced levels of spices. Mild sour flavor of curd was making it further brilliant. Well roasted and well presented. One big differentiator was that the chicken was with skin, which usually is not the case with other forms of roasted chicken. Over-all a delicious preparation.

Malabar Mutton Curry & Malabar Veg Biryani

Having tried one Arabian dish we thought to go with Malabar cuisine for mains. Our try was on Malabar Mutton Curry and Malabar Veg Biryani.

Malabar Mutton Curry was up to the expectation. Cooked in coconut oil, the gravy actually had coconut texture which is the minimum expectation from a Malabar based gravy. Again, not over spiced and not over oily.

Malabar Veg Biryani was having the typical Malabar small rice and coconut taste. Apart from those main ingredients, it had Paneer, Beans, Carrot, Green Peas and Cauliflower. Was served with Raita and Pickle.

Together both the mains made a good combination and was fulfilling. All the items were very less oily and light on stomach.

SERVICE : Service was satisfactory. We were able to get assistance on selecting our food and steward was able to help us with options. When we requested for extra raita and mayonnaise, we got it quite fast.

We did not go for any beverages as we were very keen to concentrate on tasting the cuisines without disturbing the taste in between. We also did not go for any desserts as we did not find anything different to try. Food for two will cost somewhere between 500-600 rs without beverages and dessert.

Moriz is a kind of place which may not create a mob of regular daily visitors mainly due to two reasons – a). it is yet to create an impact/identity of unique offerings and b). it is slightly high on prices. Yet, Moriz is a kind of restaurant on which you can rely when you are confused with what to eat or when you want to treat some guests.

THEHEEBEE SCORE CARD (1 = Lowest, 10= Highest) :

Taste and quality :7/10

Ambiance and presentation : 6.5/10

Service : 6/10

Value For Money/cost : 6/10

Overall : 6.5/10
