WHAT THEHEEBEE SAYS :
This chain or restaurants serving authentic Andhra Cuisine was started way back in 1984 by Mr. Nalagatla Krishna Reddy who was born in Nellore District, the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh.
We have been regular visitors and huge fan of Nagarjuna since 2007. Our first experience with Nagarjuna was at their Jayanagar outlet. We have visited all their Bangalore outlets and need to say taste and quality are consistent across all the outlets.
They have a very simple menu comprising of limited variety in veg food, non-veg food and desserts. Across all these years we have been a huge fan of their Andhra meal served on Banana leaf and Chicken biryani. We have seen a lot of people eating the other offerings but somehow we could not just live without their Andhra meal and Chicken biryani.
We are sharing our experience of their latest outlet at Bannerghatta Road. However our experience has been the same at all other outlets.
AT THE FIRST STEP :
Its very strategically located on first floor of Meu Square building on Bannerghatta road. Very easy to locate due to huge sign board. Located above KFC and opposite to Brand Factory. In fact it is difficult to miss it while passing by.
There are sofa seating at the reception for those who are either waiting for a table or waiting for a take away. One can feel hygiene at all the areas – waiting, reception, dining as well as lavatories. It is kept very clean and tidy. Everything is well organized. Banana leaves are pre-arranged on empty tables waiting for the customers. Its a very welcoming feeling since the very first step.
Its a big setup divided into various sections. They have also separated out some portions by glass walls which becomes ideal for large groups to dine together. Very well lit, well ventilated and well air-conditioned. Tables are kept at sufficient distances maintaining a virtual privacy for occupants of each table. Regularly the staff keeps the place clean. On one side there is a glass wall facing Bannerghatta road and at nights its a good experience to dine while facing the hustle-bustle of traffic outside.
Veg Andhra Meal
This is an unlimited meal barring few things which are charged on reorder.
Rice : Very soft, steaming hot rice is served. Every reorder is of the same quality. As a custom we added Andhra Podi (Gun Powder) over it and one steward poured a good helping of ghee over it.
Appalam (Papad): Crisp fried rice papad goes well with the rice.
Daal : Andhra Daal with a lot of green leafy vegetables is one of the signature item of the meal. It is also served piping hot and is very delicious. It has been of the same taste and quality for years.
Veg Subji : One veg subji is served in the meal. A different variety is served on rotation basis.
Chutney, Pickle and fried chillies : Some of the traditional Andhra specialties.
Sambar and Rasam : One of the best Sambar and Rasam ever available. Again served unlimited.
Butter Milk and Curd : One cup each of these is served. Curd is very fresh. Butter milk is mildly spiced.
Payasam : Traditional Andhra sweet made out of milk and sev (noodles).
Few years back they also had Spiced Raita (Majjige Huli) as part of their meal. Somehow they have stopped it now. This was another amazing item in the meal. On every occasion we request the staff to convey to management if it is possible to again start serving it. We miss it a lot!!
The way in which management is able to maintain high freshness, hygiene, taste and quality of food across all branches for years is a commendable thing. No doubt that a lot of effort goes in it.
Very good hospitality. Everyone in the staff has a smile on face and cordially welcomes you. People are very attentive. Every time you call someone to replenish any item they ensure that you get it without delay. Spice levels are generally high in Andhra meal. Considering this you may need water more frequently. Management has been very thoughtful about keeping cold water jugs on each table.
Meal for two costs less than 400 Rs.
