We visited Oye Amritsar on a Saturday evening for dinner. It was a dinner with family and friends. Authentic Punjabi food was on the mind and a friend suggested us to visit Oye Amritsar, so we headed to this place. Our experience with food turned out to be very satisfying. However the service was something that definitely needs to be made faster. Overall a mixed feeling with enough of happy memories to return back with hopes that the service will become faster by then.

It is located on the popular J P Nagar Inner Ring Road. Many popular eateries have come up on this stretch recently. Oye Amritsar is located on second floor of a complex adjacent to Max Store. Ample parking space is available in the basement and also on the adjacent roads.

Management has done a good job on the interiors. Interiors are kept simple yet appealing. As soon as you reach the restaurant you see an Enfield Bullet welcoming you – the very sign of Punjab!! There are two seating areas. One smaller area where a sizable group can have food together and one relatively larger area facing the main road. A lot of inexpensive stuff is used artistically to create a good ambiance. Funny posters and sayings adore the walls – all related in one or the other way to the happy Punjabi culture.

In one corner is stacked a small bar counter which server liquor and draft beer. This is very small and hardly anyone can have their drinks on the counter. It is more like a serving counter only.

Tables, chairs and oveall place was kept clean and tidy.

They have put up a village style thela for Paan. The guy sells different varieties of paan at reasonable rate. A perfect refreshment after a heavy Punjabi meal.

Starters : We ordered a Paneer starter for kids. I dont remember the name but it was a white marinated Paneer cooked in tandoor with Capsicum and Onion slices. Marination was very delicious and Paneer pieces were very fresh and tender. It tasted yummy with the delicious mint chutney.

Main Course :

Sarson Da Saag and Makki Di Roti : One of the best Sarson Da Saag that we have ever tasted. It has very well balanced spices and the flavors from being cooked over a clay stove or tandoor was creating magic. A #MustTry dish at Oye Amritsar. Makki Di Roti was complimenting in the best way with Sarson Da Saag. It had that perfect texture that was between soft and crunchy; and was dripping with butter – just the Punjabi way.

Paneer Makhani : Tender Paneer pieces in that perfect Makhani gravy. Though this dish was very delicious, we were expecting it to be a rustic version. However it was more like the delicate version that we usually get in fine-dining or start rated restaurants.

Hall Gate Da Vegetable Pulao : A very good experience with this flavorful rice dish. Long and delicate basmati rice cooked in ghee along with country vegetables. A perfect mix with Makhani gravy of Paneer Makhani.

SERVICE : Service definitely needs to be faster and someone needs to be appointed to just look around it. It was taking much longer for the food to get served from the time that it was ordered. Also we had to ask every time to get our water glasses refilled. Better and faster service is an expectation at restaurants of this class. This parameters takes away the fun and points as well.
