WHAT THEHEEBEE SAYS ABOUT SAFARI AT BANNERGHATTA NATIONAL PARK:
A jungle safari ride is always a thrilling experience. Its the opposite world – humans in cage and animals out in the wild! Our first ever experience of a Jungle Safari Ride was at Bannerghatta National Park at Bengaluru.
About: Bannerghatta National Park is located in the Ragihalli Forest Reserve near Bengaluru in the valley of the Champakadhama hills. As per the information available through locals and on the website of the park, a mini zoo was created in year 1972 which gradually was grown into the present Biological Park by the year 2002. It is also said to be one among the very few places in the world where wilderness is preserved so close to a big city.
Reaching there: Please refer the details given in TheHeeBee’s post about visiting Butterfly Park at Bengaluru to know the directions on reaching the Safari at Bannerghatta National Park.
Ticket Fare: There are different ticket fares based on the age and type of vehicle opted for Safari at Bannerghatta National Park. Below is the table extracted from their site and it provides the fare as of 18-Sept-2017:
We have always opted for the Grand Safari which happens in a KSTDC bus and the fare includes access to the zoo as well. The buses are clean and have enough safety measures. Drivers are very well trained about the animal spottings, animal moods, and safety of the visitors. The driver halts the buses for enough time so that all the visitors gets to observe the animals properly and take pics.
After entering the premises, one needs to go to the left-hand side where is located the pickup and drop point of the Safari at Bannerghatta National Park. The park authorities have made a very good provision for visitors to be seated under shade while in the queue. The authorities ensure that everyone maintains the queue discipline.
Wildlife Enclosures: The National Park is divided into different non-conflicting animal territories. The territories are secured by tall and thick iron mesh and huge sliding doors. The passage between every territory is secured through a dual-door safety mechanism. One door opens for the vehicle to exit one territory. Then the bus has to wait for that door to close and for the door of next territory to open. Well trained staff manages this safety measure diligently. Every animal territory also has animal ‘holding houses’ where the animals are kept for rest and to administer medicines.
One of the most exciting experiences of the Safari at Bannerghatta National Park is the fierce carnivorous animals passing just a few feet away from the visitor seated in the vehicle. It feels like a true display of might by the lovely creatures of nature.
The Safari at Bannerghatta National Park proceeds in this order :
a). Herbivore Safari that houses herbivorous animals like Elephants, Deer, Sambar, Neelgai Black Buck etc.
b). Bear Safari where you will experience many big bears passing by your vehicle.
c). Lion Safari where you will experience the king of the jungle roaming freely and passing just a few feet away from you.
d). Tiger Safari where apart from the big agile Tigers, you will also see the rare ‘White Tigers’.
Apart from all the exciting experiences with the fauna, the Safari at Bannerghatta National Park also gives an enthralling experience with the flora and the other beauty of nature. One will admire everything inside the national park – the rocks, the hillocks, the waterholes, the beautiful flowers, lush green trees and the fact that the animals roaming around freely.
