London Heathrow (LHR) Airport – Transition Experience

WHAT THEHEEBEE SAYS ABOUT TRANSITING THROUGH THE LONDON HEATHROW (LHR) AIRPORT:

London Heathrow (LHR)

I recently got the opportunity to explore London Heathrow (LHR) Airport while I was traveling from Bengaluru to New York. Among the different options that I had for this travel, I opted to travel via London Heathrow (LHR) Airport as I really wanted to experience this second busiest airport in the world. I had read a lot about how massive scale of London Heathrow (LHR) Airport. So when I got the opportunity, I grabbed it without missing.

My experience of London Heathrow (LHR) Airport is a combination of two transit experiences, each of about 4 hours, once while changing the flight en route Bengaluru to New York and the other one while returning by the same route.

* At first glance:

London Heathrow (LHR) is the largest airport that I have visited till now. It has multiple terminals and each terminal is further divided into multiple gates. Each of these gates, further have multiple boarding gates to board the aircraft. There is a network of superfast trains which the travelers have to take for transiting between the terminals and terminal gates. Trains are easily accessible and provide a comfortable ride. The airport has multi-floored and each level can be reached either by elevators or by escalators. The trains run continuously at an interval of approximately 2 to 3 mins between two trains. All these logistics are very well maintained so that the travelers don’t get delayed while transiting.

The airport has clear navigation signs for the help of travelers.  It has flight schedule information displayed at multiple easily accessible locations and there are many helpdesks to assist the travelers. Airport staff is very helpful at all the times and guides the travelers very well. All this makes the transit very comfortable.

I must say that The London Heathrow (LHR) airport maintains a very good standard of cleanliness and hygiene. Washrooms are regularly cleaned. There are drinking water dispensers at easily accessible locations.

* Immigration and security check experience:

Due to security reasons, I won’t elaborate on my experience of immigration and security checks. I would like to mention one important point that can benefit many other travelers like me. Security check was of a very high standard yet very convenient and well assisted by the respective staff. I have surgical (orthopedic) implants in my body and I carried the relevant documents with me. Yet, the support and guidance from security staff made the overall process very comfortable. I really want to appreciate how they carry on the security checks at high standards and high level of humanity. Immigration process was also smooth and comfortable.

* Leisure activities at the terminal:

The terminal is like a huge, very huge fair. There are eateries and shops everywhere. There are ample food and beverage options to choose from. I suggest not to miss a beer at London Heathrow (LHR) terminal. It will be an experience to cherish forever. There are multiple duty-free shops and general shops selling – cosmetics, clothes, liquors, chocolates & toffees, souvenirs, books, medicine, watch, electronic gadgets, and whatnot. Don’t miss to buy that nice London souvenir.

* Airport staff:

I had a very satisfactory experience with every staff member that I interacted with – support staff, immigration desk, security staff, helpdesk, restaurant staff and at the shops. They are very kind and helpful. The staff consists of many people who can speak Indian languages like Hindi, Punjabi, and Gujarati.

* Climate and the amazing outside view:

London Heathrow (LHR) airport has fantastic outside view. Big glass walls overlooking the flights is an experience to remember. There was excellent outside climate which was adding to the canvas. I am so happy about my decision to transit through this airport. it has left an everlasting impression to me which I will cherish forever.
